Adam Zampa: Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa equals an unwanted record in ODIs

NEW DELHI: Adam Zampa endured a challenging outing on Friday and unfortunately, he etched his name into an unwanted record in men’s one-day internationals (ODIs) by conceding 113 runs in his ten overs, which is the joint-most by any bowler in this format.
The previous holder of this record was Mick Lewis of Australia, who also gave away 113 runs during the memorable series decider between Australia and South Africa in 2006, where Proteas successfully chased down 435.
In the match where Australia chose to field first, they faced a relentless assault from the South African batters, with Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller leading the charge. Klaasen’s remarkable century came off just 57 balls.
Klaasen, who scored 174 runs off just 83 balls, and Miller (82 not out) formed an extraordinary fifth-wicket partnership, amassing 222 runs off only 94 balls. This partnership powered South Africa to a formidable total of 416 for five, marking their fifth-highest total in one-day internationals.

Klaasen’s exceptional innings included 13 fours and an equal number of sixes, with his remarkable display ending as he was caught on the boundary off the final ball of the innings.
Zampa had a tough day, being hit for nine sixes and eight fours during his spell. The 48th over, which he bowled against Miller and Klaasen, was particularly expensive, yielding 26 runs.
Zampa’s nine sixes conceded in the innings is the second-worst figure by a bowler in an ODI innings, highlighting the formidable batting display by the South African team.
