Sri Lanka cricket legend Muttiah Muralitharan is going to invest Rs 1,400 crore to set up a soft drink manufacturing unit in Karnataka’s Badanaguppe, state minister MB Patil said on Tuesday. The Rs 1,400 crore investment will be directed towards the project.

Patil announced about the investment after holding discussions with Muralitharan, who met him to discuss the project.

A statement from the Minister’s office revealed that the ex-Sri Lankan cricket player, Muralitharan, has aspirations to launch his own food and drink range called ‘Muttiah Beverages and Confectioneries.’ While the first estimation for the project was Rs 230 crore, it recently escalated to a whopping Rs 1,000 crore. Moreover, Patil tipped that this figure might see a further hike, rising to as much as Rs 1,400 crore in the foreseeable future.

The record-breaking cricketer, currently known to have bagged the highest number of wickets in Test cricket, is now stepping into the food and drink business with his latest venture, known as “Muttiah Beverages and Confectioneries.”

Muralitharan and Mukesh Ambani, who heads Reliance Industries, have joined hands in an exciting venture designed to breathe new life into the famous Campa Cola brand. Their aim? Shake up the Indian fizzy drink scene, which until now, has been dominated by foreign bigwigs like Coca-Cola and PepsiCo.

The project, originally forecast to require an investment of Rs 1,000 crore, has now seen its budget expand to Rs 1,400 crore. This is directly attributed to a broader vision and larger scale for our work, with an eye on the potential for further growth in the future. The minister confirms that activities are set to kick off by January 2025 on the 46 acres of land earmarked for the project. As we move forward, he’s made it clear that concerns tied to the project’s designated land must be swiftly handled.
