Former Pakistan cricketer has followed in footsteps of Shoaib Malik and got engaged to an Indian girl, Pooja Boman, in New York recently.
Former Pakistan captain and all-rounder Shoaib Malik broke a million hearts in India when he married Indian tennis legend Sania Mirza. The couple have one son together – Izhaan – but have since got a divorce with Shoaib marrying Pakistani actress Sana Javed.
Now following in Shoaib Malik’s footsteps, another star Pakistan cricketer has got engaged to be married to an Indian girl. The cricketer in question is Raza Hasan, who has got engaged to Indian girl Pooja Boman.
Raza made this announcement with a post on his official Instagram account from Queens in New York. “Thrilled to share that I’m engaged! I asked the love of my life to be mine forever, and she said yes! Excited for all the adventures ahead together,” Hasan wrote on his social media post with the picture of his fiancée.
According to media reports, Hasan is set to marry Pooja in January or February next year. Hasan turned out in 10 T20I matches and one ODI for Pakistan between 2012 and 2014. He picked up 10 wickets in T20I cricket at an impressive average of 21.9.
In 48 first-class matches, Hasan claimed 149 wickets at an average of 29.05 and 122 List A wickets at 27.16. After his retirement from cricket, Hasan has moved to New York where he met Pooja.
The latest media reports also said that Pooja has shown keen interest about Islam and is open to changing her religion from Hinduism to Islam before she gets married to Raza Hasan.
Pakistan cricketers marrying Indian girls
Raza Hasan is, of course, not the first Pakistan cricketer to marry an Indian girl. Shoaib Malik married Sania Mirza and the couple lived happily in Dubai for many years before their divorce.
Another Pakistan cricketer – Hasan Ali – married Indian girl Samiya Arzoo in 2019, who hails from Uttar Pradesh and has now moved to Pakistan. Former Pakistan batter Mohsin Khan had tied the knot with Indian Bollywood star Reena Roy, but the couple got separated.
While Pakistan cricket legend Zaheer Abbas has been married to Rita Luthra since 1988.
