The most important highlight of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip is its improved onboard AI features. Qualcomm says that the chipset infuses high-performance AI across the entire system to deliver premium- level AI performance.
“Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 infuses high-performance AI across the entire system to deliver premium-
level performance and extraordinary experiences to consumers. This platform unlocks a new era of generative AI enabling users to generate unique content, help with productivity, and other
breakthrough use cases.” said Chris Patrick, senior vice president and general manager of mobile
Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 adaptability
Qualcomm has mentioned that the new chipset will make its way to several premium tier Android smartphones across the globe. Several OEMs are set to launch their premium samrthones based on this chipset. This includes Asus, Honor, iQ0oo, Meizu, NIO, Nubia, OnePlus, Oppo, Realme, Redmi, RedMagic, Sony, Vivo, Xiaomi and ZTE.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 3: Features
Accoring to the company, the new AI Engine is a game-changing innovation designed for on-device generative AI applications. It brings a new era of virtual assistants that transform the way users interact. It supports multi-modal generative AI models, such as Meta’s large language models (LLM), language vision models (LVM) and transformer network-based automatic speech recognition (ASR) with up to 10 billion parameters, all processed on-device.
With its stable diffusion technology, it can generate images in just a fraction of a second and enables rapid content creation. Apart from these, Qualcomm’s AI Engine also boasts impressive speed, with LLM models capable of running up to 20 tokens per second, one of the fastest in the smartphone industry. Additionally, it offers on-device personalisation using data like favorite activities, fitness level and location, ensuring personalised AI responses.
It also comes with Hexagon NPU that delivers up to 98% faster performance and the Qualcomm Sensing Hub sees a 3.5x AI performance increase.
