AISU Petitions For Revision of Exam Centre Allocation

The NEET PG 2024 examination is scheduled to be held on August 11, 2024. However, there have been multiple issues affecting candidates, particularly those with disabilities.

New Delhi: Following the release of the NEET PG 2024 test city slip, the All India Student’s Union (AISU) has filed a petition before the chief commissioner for Persons with Disabilities. According to the petition, the Petitioner, Sai Krishna, is the National Vice President of the All India Students Union, a division of the Federation of Indian Students Association, registered under the Indian Trust Act 1882. The Petitioner represents the interests of students, including those with disabilities, across India.

The NEET PG 2024 examination is scheduled to be held on August 11, 2024. However, there have been multiple issues affecting candidates, particularly those with disabilities. At first, several candidates are distressed by the allocation of exam centres in distant locations. Candidates have reported that some centres are located as far as 1,000 km away, leading to widespread demands for relocating the centres to the first preferred city listed in their application forms.

The NEET PG 2024 exam, originally scheduled for June 23, 2024, was postponed just a day before the exam, causing significant distress and financial burden on the candidates. Many students, including those with disabilities, had already traveled to their designated centers, incurring expenses for transportation and accommodation. The abrupt cancellation not only wasted their resources but also caused severe mental anguish. Now, with the rescheduled date set for August 11, 2024, students are being allocated to far-off locations, further exacerbating their challenges, especially for those with disabilities.

“The frequent changes in exam dates and the short notice provided for the final exam date have left students with insufficient time to make necessary arrangements, especially those with disabilities who require additional time and resources to prepare adequately,” reads the petition.

Aspirants have flooded social media with requests to revise the exam centre allocation. “@RahulGandhi can you please address the issue of NEET PG centres being randomly allocated in far off states like kerala candidates in Odisha and Assam. It’s stressful to face exams and now how to reach places and centres in this torrential rain and disruption. Pleas help,” wrote a user on X.

Grounds for filing the petition

The allocation of exam centres without considering the special needs of disabled students violates their right to equality and non -discrimination under Article 14 of the constitution of India.
