Allure Editors’ First-Impressions of Sabrina Carpenter’s Cherry Baby Fragrance

“Espresso” has arguably been the anthem of summer, so when I heard singing sensation Sabrina Carpenter was launching another fragrance (she already has Sweet Tooth, a vanilla scent, and Caramel Dream, with amber and almond, in her collection) the first thing I thought of was…a chocolate espresso-scented fragrance, of course. And I wasn’t too far off.

The pop star recently launched Cherry Baby, a bright new fragrance housed in a chocolate bar-shaped bottle. Inside isn’t your typical fruity scent—notes of chocolate and brown sugar are blended into the juice. In a press release, Carpenter said she wanted the scent to be “unexpected but something upscale and sophisticated while still feeling playful and provocative.” And that it is.

Allure editors are familiar with the other cherry-infused fragrances on the market, and Cherry Baby reminded some of them of Tom Ford’s Lost Cherry, which kicked off the trend when it launched in 2018. The (really!) big difference though: At $55, Carpenter’s is a fifth of the price (compared to around $405 if you are adding Tom Ford’s to your cart).

Personally, upon first spritz, I found Cherry Baby to be a bit sweet for my floral-loving nose. As the scent dried on my skin, it evolved into something less sugar-y sweet and more fruit-forward. However, it wasn’t cherries I was smelling. Instead, it resembled the aroma of freshly baked apple pie—like a lighter version of Kayali Eden Juicy Apple, one of my favorites.

Turns out, I was on the nose (forgive the pun). Cherry is certainly in the mix—and so is apple and plum, plus peony and vanilla. If you couldn’t tell from that list, it’s sweet. How sweet you ask? Take it from four other Allure editors who gave Cherry Baby a whiff.
