KDAH History

The Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital was originally conceived by Nitu Mandke in 1999, but the project could not come to fruition as it faced setbacks after Mandke’s death in 2003. However, it was taken over by Anil Ambani-led Reliance Group which completed the project and opened its doors in 2009.

The KDAH has faced its share of controversies, notably in 2014, when the hospital was accused of offering offering incentives to doctors for referring patients. Later, the Anil Ambani-led hospital had to tender and official apology to the Maharashtra Medical Council for propagating this unethical practice.

Meanwhile, despite a few setbacks and controversies, the KDAH has been a leader in medical innovations India and Asia, introducing groundbreaking technologies, including the Spine Surgery Suite featuring the O-arm, and advanced cancer treatment methods. In 2016, the KDAH announced plans to establish 18 cancer-care centers in rural Maharashtra, under the name Reliance Cancer Centres, to provide specialized care in rural India.
