New Delhi: Jasprit Bumrah, known for his calm and patient demeanour on the field, tickled the funny bones with his witty banter and poked fun at Australian batter Marnus Labuschagne during the first day of the Pink Ball Test at the Adelaide Oval on Friday.

Labuschagne defended the ball straight to Bumrah during the 13th over of Australia’s innings and jokingly said, “Wait!” With a smile, Bumrah calmly handled the ball and outplayed him completely off the very next ball. In a playful moment, Bumrah made a slow, exaggerated run towards Labuschagne to show his humorous side. Labuschagne appreciated Bumrah’s brilliant delivery with a smile, recognising his talent.

Bumrah also achieved a notable feat by becoming the first bowler to take 50 Test wickets in 2024. Celebrating his 31st birthday, Bumrah dismissed Usman Khawaja for his 50th wicket, who was caught at first slip by skipper Rohit Sharma. Earlier, Australia’s Mitchell Starc claimed a career-best 6-48 to bundle out India for 180 inside two sessions of the day-night second Test. India lost in-form opener Yashasvi Jaiswal to the first ball of the Test and slipped to 141-8 before Nitish Kumar Reddy’s belligerent 42 took them past the 175 mark.

India came into the contest with zeal after their 295-run win in the first Test in Perth, but Australia have a perfect record in Adelaide, having won all seven pink ball Tests played at the venue.
