Anna Wintour says Ralph Lauren ‘could have been a movie director’ | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

Hollywood stars and fashion critics concur that Ralph Lauren is a “timeless” fashion brand.

Earlier this week, the fashion brand hosted an “intimate” show in Lauren’s private design studio in New York City to present his Fall/Holiday 2024 Women’s Collection that harkened back to its first women’s show in 1972 when the designer debuted his collection to a small group of editors and peers in his “parlor-style office.”

Over half a century later, the luxury brand continues to strive in exuding “elegance and timeless glamour” through a “soft palette of neutrals and metallics.” The collection ranges from tailored and trim suit jackets to dazzling, beaded-dresses paired with cowboy hats.

“The collection evokes the luxurious yet subtle style of a woman who is natural, confident and timeless,” the fashion house says.

The 84-year-old designer’s exclusive guest list included the likes of Hollywood stars Kerry Washington, Jessica Chastain, Glenn Close and Jodie Turner-Smith, as well as Vogue editor Anna Wintour, all of whom shared their thoughts with insiders at the affair, which was shared with the press.

Vogue’s longtime editor Anna Wintour, 74, who has decades of experience in the fashion industry, said his new collection lives up to his longtime legacy as a “timeless yet modern” designer.

“I think that Ralph could have been a movie director – so that’s fashion’s gain and Hollywood‘s loss because every time you see a collection like the one we just saw, you just think, ‘He’s seeing a movie,'” she said while smiling.

“The other thing that always strikes me about Ralph’s collections is that they are so timeless, but, at the same time, they’re also essentially modern.”

Many Hollywood celebs echoed Wintour’s sentiments, with Kerry Washington, 47, adding: “I think it is elegance you can count on, year after year.”

“I guess he is inspired by the world around him but the clothes are never trendy,” the actress said. “You really feel like you can dip into a look in any decade and still be one of the best dressed women in the room.”

Actress and model Jodie Turner-Smith, 37, added: “There is something about it that is, while it is always current and modern, it still feels nostalgic.”

Actress Glenn Close, 77, a proud Connecticut girl from Greenwich, said the brand is a “classic” go-to that adheres to her home state motto of buying “the best you can afford” and “wearing it to hell.”

“They all just look wearable, comfortable, beautiful, simple,” she says.

Actress Jessica Chastain, 47, feels like she always leaves a Ralph Lauren show learning “a fashion lesson,” saying that only he could pair a tuxedo or beaded dress with a cowboy hat.

“That’s what I’ve come to expect – I learn that I get to break the rules,” she says.
