New Delhi: Apple on Tuesday unveiled its next generation of iPhones — a lineup that will boast better cameras, faster processors, a new charging system and a price hike for the fanciest model. The new models will also feature an industry-first color-infused back glass with a stunning, textured matte finish, and a new contoured edge on the aluminum enclosure. Though the four types of iPhone 15 models aren’t making any major leaps in technology, but it added enough new bells and whistles to the top-of-the line model. By far the biggest change on the iPhone 15 is the addition of the Dynamic Island, the pill-shaped area that covers the front camera and sensors on top of the phone’s display.
Last year, Apple added the Dynamic Island to the iPhone 14 Pro. It was a nifty little pill-shaped widget near the top of the display that could change shape depending on user needs, like for displaying notifications. Now it’s in every iPhone 15 model, and even better, there are new features. Some examples Apple gave included the ability to track a flight before you board, or follow Major League Soccer games, which Apple has the streaming rights for.
As speculated, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models have got rid of the mute switch that has stuck with the iPhone since the first model of the smartphone. Now, the Action Button takes it places. You can use the Action Button to silence your phone, but it also makes room for more customisable actions, just like on the Apple Watch.
The basic models are also getting a faster chip used in last year’s Pro and Pro Max models, while the next generation of the premium iPhone 15s will run on an even more advanced processor that will enable the devices to accommodate the same kind of video games that typically require a console.
The new iPhone 15 also has a new, 48-megapixel main camera, a big improvement from last year’s 12-megapixel main camera. This means that the iPhone 15 can now do 2x zoom without having a dedicated telephoto camera.
Another small but important change: The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus now come with a USB-C connector, meaning you can charge all of your Apple devices with the same cable and charger. Bye-bye, Lightning port.
The processor that powers the iPhone 15 is last year’s A16 Bionic, introduced on the iPhone 14 Pro. One cool new feature that this brings is being able to charge AirPods or Apple Watch directly from the iPhone’s USB-C connector.
Apple iPhone 15 Pro Price:
The iPhone 15 Pro is introduced at a price of USD 999 for the base 128 GB. The Pro Max variant is available at a price of USD 1199. It will be available for pre-booking from September 15.
Besides its new iPhones, Apple also announced its next generation of smartwatches — a product that made its debut nearly a decade ago. The Series 9 Apple Watch, available in stores Sept. 22, will include a new gesture control that will enable users to control alarms and answer phone calls by double snapping their thumbs with a finger.
