Ganesh Chaturthi, which kicks off the 10-day long Lord Ganesha festival begins on September 7 (Saturday) this year due to which banks will remain closed on the day in the following cities, as per the bank holiday calendar issued by Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

Ganesh Chaturthi Bank Holiday: Ganesh Chaturthi marks the beginning of a 10-day festival which is celebrated in several parts of the country. This year the festival kicks off on September 7 (Saturday) due to which banks will remain closed on the day in the following cities, as per the bank holiday calendar issued by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for the year:

  • Ahmedabad (Gujarat)
  • Belapur, Nagpur, and Mumbai (Maharashtra)
  • Bengaluru (Karnataka)
  • Bhubaneswar (Odisha)
  • Chennai (Tamil Nadu)
  • Hyderabad (Telangana)
  • Panaji (Goa)

Note: Though offline banking will be unavailable in the above cities, online banking services like mobile and internet banking, and UPI services will not be affected by any means.

Here’s the complete list of bank holidays in September, according to RBI:

  • September 8 (Sunday): Banks will be closed.
  • September 14 (Saturday): Karma Puja/First Onam – Banks will be closed in Kerala and Jharkhand.
  • September 15 (Sunday): All Banks will be closed.
  • September 16 (Monday): Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (Birthday of Prophet Mohammad) (Bara Vafat) –  All bank will remain closed in Gujarat, Mizoram, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Hyderabad, Manipur, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir.
  • September 17, Tuesday: Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi/Indrajatra – All banks in Sikkim and
    Chhattisgarh will be closed.
  • September 18, Wednesday: Pang-Lhabsol – Bank holiday in Sikkim.
  • September 20, Friday: Friday following Eid-i-Milad-un-Nabi – Bank holiday in Jammu and Kashmir.
  • September 21, Saturday: Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi Day – Bank holiday in Kerala
  • September 22, Sunday: All banks to remain closed.
  • September 23, Monday: Birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji – Banks in Jammu and Kashmir will be closed.
  • September 28, Saturday: Banks will be closed on the fourth Saturday.
  • September 29, Sunday: All banks will be closed.
