If you happen to spot the Terminator in London, don’t be alarmed – the machines aren’t taking over the world in a near future, just yet.

Instead, Hollywood legend Arnold Schwarzenegger – the actor behind that movie franchise – is in London this week, shooting new scenes for the second season of the Netflix comedy-action show Fubar.

Filming was taking place Wednesday at the Fanshawe Conservation Area, where the 77-year-old star could be seen in sunglasses and chomping a trademark cigar. Schwarzenegger is expected to be in the city until Friday, sources told The Free Press.

Schwarzenegger was in Hamilton last month also filming scenes for the show, The Hamilton Spectator reported.

In a teasing social media post Tuesday, Film London – an agency for the city’s expanding film industry – said London “will be hosting a major production in the coming days,” but provided no further details.

Andrew Dodd, director of Film London, was mum about the Hollywood A-lister being in town when asked Wednesday.

“I can’t confirm anything about the production itself, its name, or who is in it, for various privacy and security reasons, which we want to respect so that this production has an enjoyable, safe and efficient time while they’re here,” he said.

“But it’s a big production.”

A bodybuilder-turned-actor who went on to become California governor before returning to acting, Schwarzenegger is best known to movie-goers for his Terminator movies and a series of comedy films including Kindergarten Cop.

Schwarzenegger, in season one of Fubar, played the role of Luke Brunner, a veteran CIA agent on the verge of retirement when he discovers his daughter is also an agent. He was in Hamilton last month, shooting scenes at the airport there for the show’s second season that will also star Monica Barbaro as his daughter, Emma Brunner, and Canadian actress Carrie-Anne Moss, who played Trinity in the Matrix.

A description of the second season on the Netflix-owned website Tudum states Schwarzenegger’s character will be faced with a new villain, “an old flame from Luke’s past who threatens to destroy the world . . . if she doesn’t destroy his life first.”

Dodd wouldn’t confirm any details of the production being shot in London, but said it’s a big boost to the city’s reputation as a filming location.

“We want productions of all sizes, to be honest,” he said. “Everything from what we call MOWs, or movies of the week, to larger shows from Amazon or Netflix.

“And we hope that there’s a ripple effect that just as one production comes and is successful and can showcase our locations, and we can create buzz about how accommodating and friendly we can be, then that’ll spread through the industry and attract more productions to come here.”
