Ashlynn Park’s spring collection was the latest showcase of the designer’s skill in craftsmanship and creating elegant feminine pieces fit for the modern-day woman.
The designer took inspiration from puzzles for the collection both literally and philosophically, she explained, with the collection being an amalgamation of pieces from her collaborators, including her design team and interns. She also used puzzles in her design method, cutting fabrics in square shapes to reduce waste.
“Most other people when they make fringe, they just cut it in a circle shape, so the outer sides would be wasted, but we found a way to cut a square in a bias cut so that we can fully use all of the fabric,” she said. “It’s sustainable, but I wanted to play this kind of quest and commission with some joy.”
This fringe detailing was utilized for some of Park’s feminine, suiting looks. Styles included peplum-like, pleated blazers, sleeveless dress shirts and sheer blouses, which offered a feminine take on modern workwear and stood out in the collection.
Aside from the tailored pieces, other standouts included Park’s draped silhouettes. Her finale look, for instance, was a bridal-style white dress draped with multiple fabrics, which gave a nod back to the puzzle inspiration.
Park’s collection showed how the designer is able to reinvent her couture-like design aesthetic each season to showcase fresh takes on traditional womenswear for a range of clients.
