It capped a remarkable undefeated season for North, the first time that has been achieved in women’s or men’s history.
But that wasn’t the only piece of history to be written on a monumental night.
Birch became the first player in the history (women’s and men’s) to win three premierships for three different teams.
The 26-year-old was a member of the Western Bulldogs’ premiership-winning team in 2018 before moving to Melbourne and tasting success again in 2022 (season seven).
Coincidentally, all three grand final wins came against Brisbane.
Birch, who wears No.2, was called up first to receive her medal and the young Auskick kid had a special message for her on the dais.
“That’s three, Libby,” she said.
Birch was immediately taken aback by the comment, but quickly thanked her and offered the young fan a hug.
“So many emotions, firstly and foremost what a terrific performance by our girls today,” Birch told Channel 7 after the match.
“We were amazing from start to finish and being the first to go undefeated is a feat in itself.
I’ve been privileged to be a part of three amazing teams and to achieve the ultimate success, so I feel very privileged as an athlete.
“I feel experience obese three teams is help me to bring a little bit of experience for the site tonight.”
Birch also spoke about her decision to join North Melbourne in last year’s trade period.
“I think (coach) Darren’s honesty in the first meeting I had, and what they were looking for, it just fit perfectly. People they had at the club when I first went in, the future they were looking for, the type of team they wanted to be, it seemed right.
“From the very first meeting after their grand final loss last year on the Tuesday, I just wanted to be there and it’s been the best decision of my life and I’ve loved every minute of it.”
