Aussie Caitlin Parker guarantees Olympic boxing medal in moment ‘she will never forget’

Caitlin Parker has secured Australia’s first medal in Olympic women’s boxing after a dominant quarter-final win over Morocco’s Khadija Mardi.

The 28-year-old was the clear victor despite a 4-1 split decision.

She is guaranteed a medal and will fight for a place in the 75kg gold medal match when the competition moves to the Roland Garros tennis courts this week.

“The smile, the elation, the emotion, the moment — she will never, ever forget,” Andy Raymond said on Nine.

Parker, who will fight China’s Li Qian in the semi-finals, was riding a high when she stepped up for her post-fight interview.

“Oh my god. Hearing you say that’s amazing. I am so stoked,” Parker said.

“(After losing in the first round at Tokyo three years ago) I was absolutely shattered. Now I know I’ve shown the world, shown Australia what I’m capable of.”

“I’m going to leave everything in the ring. I’m going to war.”
