Caitlin Parker has secured Australia’s first medal in Olympic women’s boxing after a dominant quarter-final win over Morocco’s Khadija Mardi.
The 28-year-old was the clear victor despite a 4-1 split decision.
She is guaranteed a medal and will fight for a place in the 75kg gold medal match when the competition moves to the Roland Garros tennis courts this week.

“The smile, the elation, the emotion, the moment — she will never, ever forget,” Andy Raymond said on Nine.
Parker, who will fight China’s Li Qian in the semi-finals, was riding a high when she stepped up for her post-fight interview.
“Oh my god. Hearing you say that’s amazing. I am so stoked,” Parker said.
“(After losing in the first round at Tokyo three years ago) I was absolutely shattered. Now I know I’ve shown the world, shown Australia what I’m capable of.”
“I’m going to leave everything in the ring. I’m going to war.”
Only six Australians have won Olympic boxing medals, with Harry Garside’s bronze in Tokyo three years ago snapping a 33-year drought.
Garside, who suffered a devastating elimination in Paris, was on hand to cheer on Parker in her quarter-final.
Australia now has two live chances for a historic first boxing gold medal after Charlie Senior (57kg) stormed into the semis.
Parker, the Australian captain, set the tone with a fierce overhand right that connected in the first round.
The Tokyo Olympian followed that up with a left hook and two left jabs in the second round to leave her opponent needing a final-round stoppage to steal the win that never looked likely.
Three judges handed all three rounds to Parker
Women’s boxing has only been part of the Olympic program since 2012.
Parker is the first Australian woman to compete at two Games.
