Barbour x Baracuta sees two heritage British brands in first-ever collab

Barbour has made something of a habit of releasing interesting collaborations in recent years, linking with names as varied at Chloé, Tokito, Alexa Chung, Moncler and Supreme. And now its latest collab is with fellow British brand Baracuta.

Barbour x Baracuta

Working with the label best known for its Harrington Jacket for the first time in AW23, the collection debuts on Friday and features three wax outerwear styles.

All the jackets feature multiple pockets, and signature brand features including a mix of both Barbour and Baracuta Tartans within the linings.

The companies said it’s “a celebration of Baracuta’s One and Only Original Harrington Jacket — known worldwide as the G9. Born in Manchester in 1938, just one year after the brand’s inception, 2023 marks its 85th Anniversary”.

The collection reimagines it with Barbour’s signature details to “create a contemporary interpretation of a much-loved classic, merging heritage with modernity”.

The collection is also inspired by East Coast preppy style that was big in the UK during the 1960s. “The UK Ivy League look was more modish and included new elements such as workwear, silk scarfs and panelled flat caps”, the companies added. “Paying homage to these links, this collection presents three styles in various colourways that embraces this concept”.

The three pieces start with the Barbour x Baracuta Porton Wax, Barbour’s take on Baracuta’s traditional G9 style. It features elasticated ribbed cuffs and a two-stud collar in olive or navy.

The second waxed cotton piece is the Barbour x Baracuta Brown Wax in black or olive. Based on the silhouette of Baracuta’s signature G4 Jacket, which was first released by the brand in 1944. It offers a slightly roomier fit than the G9. It has a horizontal-cord-lined stand collar, two deep flap pockets and safety wallet pockets, plus Baracuta’s signature umbrella back yoke.

Finally, there’s the Barbour x Baracuta Clayton Wax. This 8oz heavyweight waxed jacket, features six pockets to the front and three to the back, including an umbrella pocket. Key features also include a double stud collar up to the hood for weather protection made up of 8-whale corduroy fabric.

Ian Bergin, Barbour’s Director of Menswear said: “It’s been a great pleasure to work with the Baracuta design team on developing this collaboration. The G9 with its umbrella yolk and Fraser tartan is a men’s classic; we have used that as the bedrock of the collection and fused that with Barbour DNA in terms of our Barbour family Classic tartan and our all-weather 8oz Oban wax cotton.

“The idea was to create a small range of instant collectables and we worked with the Baracuta team to refine and perfect our ideas. The two brands working together is all about the correct approach to authenticity and relevance focusing on how heritage brands interpret the past for a modern consumer.”
