25’ — VAR rules out a Kim Min-jae goal. Was it offside? Who knows.

2’ — GOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Kane makes it 1-0!

Kickoff: We’re underway!

One hour until kickoff: We have lineups! Massive surprise as Bayern Munich start without both Joshua Kimmich AND Leon Goretzka, due to apparent flu-like symptoms. It looks like Guerreiro and Pavlović are in midfield with Konrad Laimer at right-back. Thomas Müller, Jamal Musiala, Leroy Sané, and Harry Kane all start as expected.

MATCHDAY! With a tumultuous calendar year coming to a close, Bayern Munich look to end 2023 on a high note. Narrowing the gap with Bayer Leverkusen remains the chief goal, but it’s easier said than done.

With the squad severely depleted after a number of injuries in midweek, Thomas Tuchel must navigate a game against one of the most in-form teams in the league. Former Bayern II manager and Uli Hoeneß’s nephew Sebastian Hoeneß has turned a team that was a relegation candidate last year into one that is better football than anyone bar Leverkusen.

Serhou Guirassy and Harry Kane are duking it out at the top of the scoring charts this year, but the Englishman has hit a brick wall in recent weeks thanks to an overall offensive decline in the team. If Bayern Munich want to get back to winning ways, Kane needs service from his teammates — which means players like Jamal Musiala, Leroy Sané, and potentially Thomas Müller — all need to step up to the plate and deliver, provided that the coach lets them.

It’s Bayern time.
