A half-day holiday is declared at iconic Visva-Bharati University at Bolpur- Santiniketan in Birbhum district of West Bengal for “celebration of Ram Lalla’s Pran Pratishtha at Ayodhya”.
Kolkata: On the occasion of the inauguration of Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the iconic Visva-Bharati University at Bolpur-Santiniketan in Birbhum district of West Bengal has declared a half-day holiday for the students, faculty, and staff members on Monday, January 22, 2024. In the notification, the university authorities have clearly stated that the half-day holiday is for the “celebration of Ram Lalla’s Pran Pratishtha at Ayodhya”. “This is to notify for information of all concerned that the University in its all Bhavanas/ Vibhagas/ Departments/ Administrative Offices/ Sections etc. other than those offices rendering emergency services will remain closed for half day till 2:30 pm on 22nd January, 2024 for celebration of the Ram Lalla Pran Pratishtha at Ayodhya as per the communication made by Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Department of Personnel & Training, Govt. of India vide its O.M. F. No. 12/7/2023-JCA dated 18th January, 2024,” reads the official notification.

As per news agency IANS, Visva-Bharati University is the only central university in India where the Prime Minister of the country is the chancellor. In all other central universities the President of the country is the chancellor. The iconic Visva-Bharati University was founded by Rabindranath Tagore to propagate the concept of open-air education.
It was declared as a central university in May, 1951 and an institution of national importance by an Act of the Parliament. Legendary Indian actor Balraj Sahani had been a teacher of English with this iconic university. Nobel laureate economist Amartya Sen served as the second vice-chancellor of the university from 1953 to 1954.
