Best fly trap Australia: Bunnings shoppers go wild over $12 product: ‘So satisfying’

Bunnings shoppers are raving about an $11.59 product for getting rid of pesky flies over summer.

The Envirosafe Fly Trap has been flying off the shelves across Australia for working as a “highly effective, non-toxic bait” that attracts the bugs to the bottle.

One customer was amazed with the results after setting up the traps outside his home.

“The flies are bad at my place at the moment so I bought a couple of fly traps from Bunnings,” he said in a Reddit thread.

His wife purchased a similar fly trap at Aldi for just $4.99 so they decided to give it a go.

After leaving the traps outside for five days, they noticed the Bunnings traps lured more flies than Aldi’s red cap version.

“Definitely not the same,” he said.

“There’s powder (in the Bunnings trap) you add water to. It turns into a green liquid, and the flies love it,” he added.

The product has received more than 60 five-star reviews online — with many saying they were “blown away” after the traps “worked beautifully”.

“This works ridiculously well. Does get smelly. Need to change fairly regularly but worth it,” one said.

Another suggested: “Best fly remover I have ever seen. Hung it on a fruit tree about a week ago hoping to get rid of fruit flies and it is absolutely full of flies of all kinds and our nearby deck has none to be seen nor is there any fly-ridden fruit around. Best hung out of sight if possible because it’s a bit ugly seeing them in the trap but it is easily our best $10 spend this summer.”

One added: “So happy I purchased this! I have a lot of flies (as we all do) that love to hang out inside. Tried this out and wow I’m so happy – best $12 I’ve ever spent. Doesn’t catch 100 per cent of flies but definitely catches 80 to 85 per cent. Huge game changer.”

However, many pointed out an “awful smell” that comes with the fly trap.

“Yes there’s a smell but that’s because it killed 1000 flies — good indication you need to change the solution! Place it far enough away from home and you won’t have an issue! Once the solution strength has worn off we recycle the contents in the garden, wash it out and start again… Nothing more satisfying than having the whole thing full and not choking on store-bought spray products,” one said.

Another shared: “I have this outside on our back fence which is about eight metres from the back door. After five days (when it’s full of dead flies) it really stinks. So time to change it out with a fresh sachet.”

One added: “Bought two of these on recommendation by a friend to reduce flies coming into the house from outside. Have been using for less than a week and have had to refill both already due to them filling up to the one third level. I’ve noticed less flies gathering around doors and windows while cooking so definitely happy with the purchase.

“Emptying them is smelly and pretty gross, but well worth it. Also, doesn’t work at all indoors as it needs to be in the sun to activate. Place a few metres away from house as it will attract a LOT of flies.”

DIY traps

Meanwhile, some shared on social media how they make their own fly traps.

“You can make a really solid one yourself with some apple cider vinegar and just a dash of dish soap, works great,” one said.

Another shared: “Try making your own concoction. I used to make my own version of these. Just get a 1.25L or 2L coke bottle, cut the top cone off, pour in your attractant and then put the cone back in upside down, hang it from a tree or just sit it on something and it works exactly the same. Flies go in but cant get out.”
