Some intrepid Porsche fanatic spent much of 2023 working with a dealer to pick out their optimum spec of Taycan and waiting for it to be delivered. With nearly $60,000 in options, including paint-to-sample Racing Green and the $6,000 Burmester premium audio, this was a seriously expensive electric wagon. At the end of the day the buyer put down $193,710 when they took delivery of the car just after Christmas in 2023. After just 322 days of ownership, the buyer of this highly factory customized car has sold it on Bring A Trailer for a 38 percent loss. They only drove the damn thing 605 miles! That’s not even two full charges!

I know that the truly wealthy lead completely different lives than us normal folks, but I think I would much rather just keep and drive a really good car instead of selling it at a massive loss. The Taycan GTS is still maybe the best new car I’ve ever driven, and this one is outfitted in a way that would make daily driving use an absolute joy. I would be perfectly happy to drive this car from now until the inevitable heat death of the universe. I’d probably be willing to give up my Cayenne and 911 Turbo to own one of these, because it would do almost everything that both of those cars currently do.

Then again, this thing isn’t done depreciating, and I can think of a bunch of stuff I’d rather do with $229 per day instead of losing it to depreciation. I’d probably have more fun betting it on black, if I’m being honest with myself.

What do you think, did the new owner make out like a bandit, or was the person who ordered this car right to ditch it when they did? The depreciation on these electric cars, particularly the ones priced over $100,000, is getting out of hand.
