Despite Iran’s warning, France, Britain, and Germany are preparing to push forward a condemnation resolution against Iran in the upcoming IAEA Board of Governors meeting.
New Delhi: As Donald Trump set to return as the next president of the United States of America, there has been growing demand within Iran to reconsider its defensive approach regarding nuclear weapons. According to the reports, the Iranian officials are calling for a fresh review of the country’s defense strategy.
Some lawmakers of the Islamic Republic are also advocating for the development of nuclear weapons. On Sunday, during the parliamentary session, Tehran MP Mahmoud Nabavian demanded that Iran equip itself with all the weapons possessed by its enemy nations.
Speaking in Iran’s parliament, Nabavian called for the development of nuclear weapons, stating, “Iran must equip itself with all the weapons possessed by its terrorist enemies, namely the United States and Israel.” The statement comes at a time when 39 Iranian MPs have urged the country’s Supreme National Security Council to reconsider the current strategy regarding nuclear weapons.
Iranian officials have long described their nuclear program as peaceful, citing Supreme Leader Khamenei’s fatwa that prohibited weapons of mass destruction. However, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s senior advisor, Kamal Kharazi, recently hinted that the Supreme Leader might reconsider his directive.
To recall, Iran’s Foreign Minister Araqchi also hinted at a shift in nuclear policy earlier. The Minister stated that if the IAEA Board of Governors passes a resolution condemning Iran, the country will not hesitate to take reciprocal actions and implement new measures in its nuclear program, which will certainly not be welcomed by Western nations.
Despite Iran’s warning, France, Britain, and Germany are preparing to push forward a condemnation resolution against Iran in the upcoming IAEA Board of Governors meeting. Meanwhile, the head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, Mohammad Eslami, has also warned that any resolution against Iran by the IAEA will be met with a firm response.
