Bindi Irwin has opened up on how she and husband Chandler Powell decided on a name for their daughter, whose full name is Grace Warrior Irwin Powell.
While the “Warrior” part would make sense to any Steve Irwin fans — his nickname was, of course, the Wildlife Warrior — there’s more to Grace’s name than just a tribute to Bindi’s late dad.

“I thought I’d share the story behind our beautiful daughter’s name,” Bindi wrote on Instagram on Monday, sharing a photo of a smiling Grace getting a piggyback ride from her mum.
“Grace Warrior Irwin Powell. Our graceful warrior.
“Grace is named after my great-grandmother, and relatives in Chandler’s family dating back to the 1700s.
“Her middle names, Warrior Irwin, are a tribute to my dad.
“Her last name is Powell just like her incredible Dada and his family.
“I think about how much meaning and love was poured into naming the most important part of our lives, our gorgeous Grace.”
Grace was born on March 25, 2021, on the couple’s first wedding anniversary.
Fans have loved following Grace’s journey from newborn baby to sweet toddler and adored Bindi’s explanation of the meaning behind her name.
“So beautiful,” one Bindi fan wrote.
“(Grace) also means favour or blessing, which is beautiful,” added another.
‘This is a lovely story Bindi, thank you so much for sharing,” wrote a third.
Another follower said Steve Irwin would be “so proud” of his daughter and granddaughter, while one said the names were “a beautiful honouring of the family.”
In October, Bindi revealed her pregnancy wasn’t all smooth sailing.
The mum-of-one shared that she had a miscarriage scare while pregnant with Grace.
“Along my pregnancy journey, I would often have times where I thought I was miscarrying because I would have severe unexplained pain,” she told Good Morning America in a TV interview.
“I would think that I was losing our beautiful daughter.”
The pain that she was experiencing were symptoms of endometriosis, which she first spoke of publicly in March 2023.
“I was tested for cancer. I had MRIs, I had ultrasounds I had CT scans, just you name it. I was checked for everything,” she explained.
“And the scariest thing was that there were no answers.”
In August 2022, she was pushed to undergo a laparoscopy, a keyhole surgery that inspects the organs in the abdomen and pelvic region.
She finally got her answer from the surgery after doctors found 37 lesions and cysts on her ovaries.
Bindi was diagnosed with endometriosis, a disease where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside of the womb, sometimes moving to other areas of the body.
Bindi became emotional when she recalled how, after her diagnosis, a doctor asked her “how did you live with that much pain?”
“That validation — I’m going to get emotional — that validation meant so much to me,” she said.
Following specialised treatment and surgery, the conservationist said she felt that she had been given a “second chance at life”.
