Birkenstock opens Miami Design District store

German footwear brand Birkenstock on Friday opened a new retail store in the Miami Design District, as the firm looks to make further inroads in the U.S. following its recent IPO debut on the NYSE.

Located at 111 NE 40th Street, the new Birkenstock Miami Design District store features design elements of a modern Miami home, where travertine stone floors and concrete planters blend with signature brand materials including cork and leather; all underneath a large-scale living plant wall epitomising the local flora of South Florida.

Inside, the ambiance is bright, light filled and naturally comfortable, capping off a contemporary coastal vibe.

“Entering the Miami Design District stands as a pivotal moment for Birkenstock,” said Oliver Reichert, CEO of Birkenstock.

“It represents merging our brand’s enduring dedication to quality, tradition and heritage with the creative spirit and global community of Miami. Deepening our retail footprint is an important pillar of our long-term growth strategy. We currently have 47 shops around the world. In the U.S., for example, we have some 6,600 doors, but run only five own stores. So, there’s obviously a huge upside potential.”

The opening of Birkenstock’s latest store coincides with a special collection debut with longstanding collaboration partner, Concepts. Limited-edition Arizona sandals with long-haired cowhide in four vibrant colors will release for the first time at the new location and exclusively available at Birkenstock Miami, 1774.com, as well as Concepts.com and all Concepts stores beginning December 8.

Additionally, the new Design District store will offer special gifts and complimentary foot massages to the public beginning Friday, December 8 through the weekend, while supplies last.

Finally, as part of the opening week festivities, for the first time, Birkenstock will integrate into the Miami art community through a sponsorship at the design platform, Design Miami. The German brand will take over
a sprawling space within the fair environment where will offer foot massages, seating areas and various interactive displays, including a showcase of the work of Californian-based timber sculptor Vince Skelly.

Birkenstock made its U.S. IPO debut in early October this year. Outside of Miami, Birkenstock’s other store locations across the U.S. include two in California and New York, respectively.
