Broadway legend Gavin Creel has died aged 48, just months after receiving a cancer diagnosis.
The Tony winner died of an aggressive metastatic melanotic peripheral nerve sheath sarcoma, according to his publicist Matt Polk.

He was diagnosed in July 2024.
Creel died in his Manhatten home on September 30, his partner Alex Temple Ward later confirmed to People.
He was receiving treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City before he was later moved to a hospice.

Creel has been remembered as one of Broadway’s top talents best known for his work across productions of Hair, Into The Woods, Hello, Dolly! and The Book of Mormon.
He won an Olivier Award for The Book of Mormon in 2014 and a Tony Award for Hello, Dolly! in 2017.
Last year Creel took home a Grammy for his work on a production of Into The Woods.
Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda led tributes for his late friend and co-star.
“Shattered. Gavin Creel was our first King when all we had was 11 songs and he wrapped the audience around his finger with nothing but a Burger King crown and his mind-blowing charisma and talent,” he said, referring to Hamilton.
“He is so loved and it is unimaginable that he’s no longer with us.
“My heart goes out to all the friends and family and collaborators lucky enough to be in his orbit.
“We love you and we’ll always love you Gavin.”

Phillipa Soo, who was the original Eliza in Hamilton, posted to Instagram: “Oh sweet Gavin. You were a shining light in this world.
“You gave us all hope, joy, laughter. You gave us your soul, your mind, your activism, your art. I will miss you so very much.
“Thank you for being a wonderful human and friend. I’m going to do my best to carry forward the light and love that you put out into the world.”
Modern Family’s Jesse Tyler Ferguson posted to Instagram: “Dear Gavin, Thank you for being a light in my life for 25 years.
“Your friendship was never taken for granted and I feel so lucky and blessed to have shared this earth with you. Rest now my sweet friend … until we meet again. I love you.”
Metastatic melanotic peripheral nerve sheath sarcoma forms in the body’s bones or soft tissues.
Creel’s final Instagram post came on July 17, promoting his podcast episode on The Quiet Part Out Loud.
He never addressed his diagnosis publicly.
The performer’s family has asked for donations to Broadway Cares/ Equity Fight Aids in his memory.
