The 49ers are in Buffalo hoping to get back on track in the snow.
After losing two consecutive games, the Niners (5-6) face the Bills (9-2) on Sunday Night Football with Brock Purdy back under center.
Purdy missed last week’s loss to the Packers with a shoulder injury but returned to practice this week and is set to play.
Other injured 49ers stars did not make such progress, though, as defensive end Nick Bosa (oblique) and left tackle Trent Williams (ankle) were ruled out Friday. Left guard Aaron Banks (concussion) and cornerback Deommodore Lenoir (knee) are also out for the game. Cornerback Charvarius Ward will return from bereavement time away after the death of his 23-month-old daughter, and linebacker Dre Greenlaw returned to practice this week after his Achilles tear in the Super Bowl but is not expected to be active.
The Bills are coming off a bye week and riding a six-game winning streak behind MVP favorite Josh Allen, most recently beating the previously undefeated Chiefs two weeks ago. Tight end Dalton Kincaid is out with a knee injury and receiver Keon Coleman is questionable with a wrist injury.
Lake-effect snow has been hitting Buffalo throughout the holiday weekend with is expected to continue off and on through Sunday night, with temperatures just below freezing. The National Weather Service reported nearly 22.9 inches of snow had fallen during this storm in Orchard Park, the suburb where Highmark Stadium is, as of 11 a.m. ET Sunday.
