Burberry joins shoemaker Tricker’s for traditionally-made footwear

Burberry’s loudly proclaimed focus on its Britishness since Daniel Lee took over creative control has included embracing both the modern and the traditional. It’s latest link-up does the latter.

It has partnered with Tricker’s for “traditionally crafted footwear” as part of the Winter 2023 shoe offer.

Founded in 1829, Tricker’s is the longest established shoemaker still operating in England, with every pair of boots and shoes fully produced at its factory in the country’s traditional shoemaking centre, Northampton.

The latest offer was designed by Burberry in partnership with Tricker’s and “builds on this heritage of craft and expertise, fine-tuning the brand’s signature shapes to match the creative vision” of the Burberry AW23 collection, Lee’s first offer for the label.

So what does the collection comprise? It’s “inspired by Tricker’s original country footwear” and includes brogues, Chelsea boots and Derby shoes in a variety of colours and fabrics – from black, vine and aubergine calf leather to warm camel suede.

In line with sustainability concerns, Burberry said the soles and uppers have been traditionally stitched to welted leather insoles, “so that every piece can be repaired and refurbished for many years of wear”.

All of the footwear is also finished with a signature rubber sole “designed for the outdoors”.

The company said the partnership between the two companies makes complete sense as “Tricker’s heritage shares numerous parallels with Burberry, with both having a history of outfitting pioneering explorers”.
