Canada’s Jasmine Jasudavicius eyes Erin Blanchfield next after win at UFC Denver

Jasmine Jasudavicius is on the second two-fight winning streak of her UFC career after earning a unanimous decision over Fatima Kline, one of the top young fighters in women’s mixed martial arts, this past weekend at UFC Denver and the Canadian already knows who she wants next.

“I mean ideally (Erin) Blanchfield,” Jasudavicius told Sportsnet’s Aaron Bronsteter in Denver after improving to 11-3 in MMA and 5-2 under the UFC banner. “She just watched me, right? I had the young girl, now give me the older one. We’ll see.”

Blanchfield, a teammate of the 23-year-old Kline, is currently ranked as the No. 3 contender in the 125-pound division. The 25-year-old was in Kline’s corner at Ball Arena. Blanchfield is coming off her first loss in the UFC, which was a five-round unanimous decision to current No. 2 contender Manon Fiorot.

Jasudavicius entered the event as the flyweight gatekeeper, ranked at No. 15. She swept the scorecards against Kline, leaning on her wrestling and strong positional control throughout the fight.

“Obviously I rely on my grappling a lot,” Jasudavicius said. “I wanted to show my striking more. … Overall, on the scorecards I did pretty alright so I’m not completely unhappy about it but I always strive to have a performance better than my last one and I don’t think this one was better than my last one, so I’ll have to strive for that for the next one.”

The 35-year-old member of Niagara Top Team is 2-0 in 2024 after also picking up a dominant submission win and performance bonus against Priscila Cachoeira at UFC 297 in January.

“I want to continue to beat up girls with numbers beside their names or without numbers beside their names,” Jasudavicius added, meaning she’ll fight anyone the UFC presents her.

Kline, a two-weight champion at 125- and 115-pounds in the CCFC organization and previously 6-0 as a pro, was a late replacement for Viviane Araujo. Jasudavicius’s original opponent is ranked at No. 10 but withdrew eight days prior to the event.
