While the rest of us were getting as comfy and cozy as possible over the long Christmas weekend, Cardi B did the exact opposite. The rapper introduced a new look that truly stands out as a major departure, even among her ever-changing hair and makeup. In fact, we almost didn’t recognize her at first, which is understandable considering she looks like an extraterrestrial ice queen version of herself.
Makeup artist Erika La’ Pearl posted a video on Christmas Eve showing Cardi looking as though she’s embodied an entirely new personality — and you would, too, if you suddenly switched both hair and eye colors. Her hair, styled by Tokyo Stylez, was the most epic ponytail, perfectly straightened down to her thighs. The nearly-white platinum shade of blonde was made even more bombshell with lots of volume at the crown and a swathe of hair wrapped across the forehead for a retro-meets-modern look.
La’ Pearl’s makeup picked up on the gray and silver tones of Cardi’s outfit, including the Mothership I Palette, MatteTrance Lipstick in Dream Lover, and Lip Fetish Sheer Colour Balm in Clear, all by Pat McGrath Labs. The grayish ombré lips came together with I went with black eye shadow to line the lip. “I first used this shimmery silver color and applied it in the middle, but she wasn’t feeling it, so I wiped it a little and added this pale nude color lipstick,” La’ Pearl tells Allure. That created the gray color that echoed the smoky vibes of her eye makeup, which also included a perfectly precise wing.
And that eye makeup was a perfect frame for Cardi’s shockingly pale gray — nearly white — color contacts.
