After meeting with Prince William and Catherine, the prince invited her to capture an investiture to honour cyclist Mark Cavendish, former rugby referee Wayne Barnes and former footballer Alistair McCoist.

William and Catherine later shared two photos to Instagram including a group shot with Hatton’s family and a moving photo of Catherine hugging the 16-year-old.

“A pleasure to meet with Liz at Windsor today. A talented young photographer whose creativity and strength has inspired us both. Thank you for sharing your photos and story with us. W&C,” the caption said.

Hutton responded that the Wales were “such lovely, genuine and kind people, I’m over the moon that my family and I had this experience”.

She also commented on the post from the Prince and Princess of Wales sharing her photos from the investiture.

“It was my absolute pleasure to meet everyone and take photos today at Windsor, it was a great honour and was essentially a dream come true, so I truly hope to be a part of any and all future events!” she wrote.

Liz received her cancer diagnosis of desmoplastic small round cell tumour in January — the same month Catherine was admitted for abdominal surgery that led to her cancer diagnosis.

Desmoplastic small round cell tumour is a very rare type of cancer that forms in the connective tissue of the body.

She brought her mother, Vicky Robayna, stepfather, Aaron and brother Mateo to Windsor Castle.

“The Prince found out about Liz through the London Air Ambulance Charity of which he is patron and following the investiture both the Prince and Princess of Wales met Liz privately with her family to hear about her day and journey,” a royal spokesperson told Daily Mail.

This was the first time Catherine has appeared on the Prince and Princess of Wales Instagram feed since she announced her return to work following the end of her cancer treatment.

The palace has previously stated she has been working from home during her treatment.

In September the 42-year-old shared the news — with “relief” — that her treatment was complete after an “incredibly tough” nine months.

“Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown,’’ she said in a video, which was shot in Norfolk.

“The cancer journey is complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you.

“With humility, it also brings you face-to-face with your own vulnerabilities in a way you have never considered before and, with that, a new perspective on everything.

“This time has above all reminded William and me to reflect and be grateful for the simple yet important things in life, which so many of us often take for granted. Of simply loving and being loved.”

Catherine said her focus would be on “doing what I can to stay cancer-free” but she was “looking forward to being back at work” with plans to undertake a light program of engagements until the end of the year.

“Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes,” she added.

“Despite all that has gone before, I enter this new phase of recovery with a renewed sense of hope and appreciation of life.”

She thanked the public for their support, saying the family had “drawn great strength from all those who are helping us at this time”.

“To all those who are continuing their own cancer journey, I remain with you, side by side, hand in hand. Out of darkness, can come light, so let that light shine bright,” she concluded.

The video featured Catherine and her husband Prince William and their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
