Chargers’ Justin Herbert sidelined with foot injury following practice

The Los Angeles Chargers can’t catch a break.

The team announced on Thursday that their starting quarterback, Justin Herbert left practice yesterday with an injury to the plantar fascia in his right foot.

“Doctors have recommended approximately two weeks in a boot — followed by a graduated return to play protocol — with the expectation that he will be ready for the start of the regular season,” the team wrote on X.

It is another in a series of injuries for Herbert. In the past two seasons, Herbert has had bruised ribs, a torn labrum to his non-throwing shoulder and two broken fingers, including one on his throwing hand that caused him to miss the final four games last season.

Herbert, 26, was originally drafted by the Chargers and will be entering his fifth year with the team. Only suiting up for 13 games last season lead to career lows in yards (3,134) and touchdowns (20) while also finishing with a 5-8 record, his first losing season since his rookie year.

Easton Stick, who started four games last season, will get most of the snaps with the first team. Los Angeles also has Max Duggan and undrafted rookie Casey Bauman on the roster.
