Charles Jeffrey Loverboy will have dedicated space in new Dover Street Market Paris

The elusive Rei Kawakubo has personally invited Charles Jeffrey Loverboy to create some special items for the long-awaited opening of Dover Street Market Paris next month.

It follows her also inviting the label to create special items for the renewal opening of Trading Museum CdG at the end of October last year.

In the new Paris concept store, the disruptive British label will be presented in a space internally known as ‘The RK space’ (or Rei Kawakubo Curates), featuring designers chosen by her, together with her two main collections, Comme des Garçons and CDG Homme Plus.

The company said Kawakubo has “looked back at the Loverboy archive of ‘beautiful suits and tailored jackets’ and reimagined them with a new take”.

They come in British wool and Italian cotton and feature tartan holes, layered canvas, saturated colours, appliqué circular patches and fraying.

And the Charles Jeffrey Loverboy ‘creatures’ will also be available via brooches, kilt pins and dog tag necklaces.

It comes at a busy time for Charles Jeffrey with the company also this month having announced the first-ever UK exhibition by the Glaswegian born designer and creative at London’s Somerset House.

Running from June to September, it will celebrate the label’s 10th anniversary and will examine the designer’s “sensational impact on the global fashion scene, from club to catwalk”. On show will be the “full spectrum of his prolific output, with newly commissioned works”.
