A new Vande Bharat Metro train successfully completed a 50-km long trial run in Kota, Rajasthan on Saturday. According to an official release issued by Kota division of West Central Railway, the newly-built 16-coach Vande Bharat Metro rake was tested a top speed of 145 kmph.

As per the statement, the new Vande Bharat Metro was tested between Kota and Mahidpur Road stations in the ‘up’ direction and between Mahidpur Road and Shamgarh stations on the ‘down’ line, making two round trips at different speeds to analyse various technical parameters

During the trial run, which was conducted by a team of Research Designs and Standards Organization (RDSO) from Lucknow, each coach of the newly-built rake was loaded with a weight equivalent to the passenger load, totaling 24.7 tonnes, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Rohit Malviya said in the release.

Malviya said the new Vande Bharat Metro train, which has been built in collaboration with the operations department of West Central Railway’s Kota division, operated at a maximum speed of 145 kmph for approximately 50 kilometers during the trial run.

Instrumentation work will be carried out on the rake on Sunday, the officer said, adding that the speed and braking system of this rake will be tested over the next 15 days.

The trial is being conducted under the supervision of RDSO’s Director of Testing B M Siddiqui, the statement said.

Notably, successful trials of Vande Bharat 18- and 20-coach rakes were also conducted in the Kota division earlier, it added.
