Christian Siriano Reimagines Hotel Sleepovers in Connecticut

Delamar Hotels didn’t have to look far for a fashion designer to handle the interiors for a few of its suites in the company’s new site in Westport, Conn.

The new property is scheduled to open later this year in the tony Fairfield County town. The internationally renowned Christian Siriano, who has a home in Westport, has been tapped to create three suites including the 3,000-square-foot presidential one and the hotel’s lobby. Starting later this fall, guests will be able to check into the designer-fied suites, which will fetch yet-to-be-set luxury rates.

Rooted in the Westport community, Siriano’s store, The Collective West, is located on Post Road East, just down the street from the new Delamar Westport hotel. Earlier this year, Charles Mallory, founder of Delamar Hotels, and his wife Georgette, president of Delamar Spas and Wellness, connected with Siriano. His work in interiors resonated with the couple, who were “thrilled” to collaborate with him on the Delamar Westport hotel project, according to a company spokeswoman.

That is understandable given that Siriano has upward of 11.75 million followers across all social media platforms including YouTube, and a celebrity clientele base that includes Coco Rocha, “Succession” star J. Smith-Cameron, Ashlee Simpson, Sophia Bush, Alicia Silverstone and others.

After studying in London under Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen, Siriano started his namesake company in 2008. Having since branched out into accessories and other categories, Siriano also runs a signature interiors business that is based in SoHo and includes furniture design. He also has exercised his design expertise to other hotel projects including the Rockwellian-sounding Inn at Chagrin Falls, a family-owned property that is run by the parents of one of his staffers. Siriano once told WWD that delving into the interior world, designing furniture and buying art for himself and clients provides “a great release” from the pressure of the fashion industry. “There are so many eyeballs on you. Everyone is judging a dress at all times. So interior design is actually my break,” he said.

Earlier this month the former “Project Runway” judge teamed up with the sleep-aid Unisom to show some of his designs with sleepwear accents in various outdoors vignettes in New York City on the day of the Met Gala. The union was a play on this spring’s Costume Institute exhibition “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.”

Founded in 2000, Delamar has three outposts in Connecticut — in Greenwich, Southport and West Hartford. The company also has one in Traverse City, Mich. But for now, Siriano’s affiliation is centered on the partnership at Delamar Westport, the spokeswoman said.

Siriano, meanwhile, will soon be off to his hometown of Annapolis, Md., to host its annual Pride event.
