Swapping your morning coffee for a lion’s mane mushroom brew might just sharpen your brainpower as well as your energy.
According to one expert, lion’s mane mushrooms may help fend off severe mental health conditions such as dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease.
Elliot Webb of Urban Farm-It highlighted the virtues of lion’s mane mushrooms, which are loaded with a specific compound that promotes the creation of nerve growth factor, a pivotal ingredient to fight off cognitive deterioration by preserving neurons and fostering new brain connections.
The expert further explained: “Lion’s mane not only may boost energy but also may support long-term brain health. Its neuroprotective properties could improve memory, focus, and even may help reduce the risk of developing dementia.
“This is particularly important as our ability to form new neural connections declines with age.”
He referred to numerous studies backing the positive effects of lion’s mane on dementia, including 2020 research that showed that consuming 1 gram per day for 49 weeks led to “significant improvements in cognitive function” in individuals with mild Alzheimer’s disease.
Webb pointed out: “By supporting brain cell growth, it may help slow the progression of conditions like Alzheimer’s.
“While more research is needed, early studies are very promising.”
Many of us rely on tea, coffee and energy drinks for our daily caffeine fix, despite being well aware of the drawbacks such as caffeine crashes, irritability and jitters. However, swapping your cuppa for mushrooms could help avoid all these issues.
Elliot pointed out that lion’s mane mushrooms can maintain steady energy levels throughout the day, reducing any jitters or crashes, while also enhancing mental and physical performance.
Plus, it doesn’t have to be consumed as a drink – lion’s mane can be used as a garnish on meals or even taken in supplement form.
