Collingwood reached the top of the AFL mountain just five days ago, but they’re already at base camp for next year’s journey.

Popular team member Trey Ruscoe has been told his contract will not be renewed at Collingwood after 18 games in four years at the club.

“Wow what a journey it has been,” the 21-year-old wrote, pre-empting an official announcement from the Magpies.

“I’ve met some amazing people along the way that I am just so thankful for and I’m just so happy that I got the opportunity to play at such a great club.

“The friendships I have made will be forever lasting and I will miss everyone from the club so much.

“Everyone has played a massive part in my career and I have learnt many lessons on the way which I am so thankful for.

“To the Collingwood faithful fans you have been awesome and we/I couldn’t have done it without your support the whole way through, thank you.”

The 193cm utility’s career peaked in 2021 when he played nine game for the Pies, including every game between Rounds 17 and 22, during which period he also had three games in a row of at least 20 disposals.

Ruscoe managed just one game this season, which came on Anzac Day in Round 6, where he had 11 disposals against the Bombers.

Heartfelt messages from his now former teammates flooded in for the man described as “heart and soul”.

“My guy,” Nick Daicos wrote.

“Love you brother. Heart and soul,” Taylor Adams said.

John Noble added: “Love you my brother!!”

Brody Mihocek said: “Love you Drip. Gonna miss our connections.”

“Love you papsi,” Isaac Quaynor said.

Bobby Hill, Jack Ginnivan, Pat Lipinski and former Magpie Brodie Grundy also left their well wishes.

Ruscoe gave away no hints on where his future could lie but, having played in several positions, the West Australian could find himself in demand given his AFL experience.
