DANNY Dyer has revealed his horror after discovering his nine year old son is a fan of Andrew Tate.
The former EastEnders actor, 46, made the shock revelation on his new show – Danny Dyer: How To Be A Man – where he explores masculinity.
Andrew Tate is an extremely controversial influencer and self-proclaimed misogynist who was arrested in December 2022 on charges of human trafficking, rape and organised crime.
While Danny is very clear on his feelings about him, he was shocked to learn that his youngest Arty – who he shares with wife Jo – not only knew he was, but branded him “a top G”.
Danny explained: “Andrew Tate’s loud-mouthed, anti-feminist rants have attracted him millions of followers worldwide. If there wasn’t social media, there would be no Andrew Tate.
“I remember back in the day, I think Andrew Tate tried to be on Big Brother. So he was looking for fame, and that was his only avenue in.
“Now he’s the most Googled man on the planet apparently, there’s disciples, there’s other little youngsters going ‘I like what he’s doing, I’m going to do the same thing’.”
He went on: “My little boy who’s nine, he’s really smart, but he’s got a phone now. So the other day his mum said to me, ‘Oh, you know, he likes Andrew Tate’, and I went, ‘What?’ So I went, ‘You like Andrew Tate?’ He went, ‘Yeah, that is a top G’.
“And I went, ‘Right, OK. But, you know he says really f**king stupid things?’ And he went, ‘Yeah, but he’s still a top G’.”
Expressing his concern, Danny continued: “It is flowing through every school, even here.
“It’s integrating into young boys’ souls. And that’s all they need, because it’s a tough time to be a boy. At school, they’re behind girls at every level. From early years to SATs, GCSEs, A-levels, university admissions and degrees.
Who is Andrew Tate?
ANDREW Tate is an influencer and former kickboxer who once briefly appeared on Big Brother.
He was born on December 1, 1986, in Washington, D.C. and spent time in Chicago and Indiana as a child before moving to England.
Tate began practising kickboxing in 2005 but became a public figure when he entered the Big Brother house as a contestant during the show’s run on Channel 5.
Since appearing on the reality series, Tate began gaining millions of followers by styling himself as “the king of toxic masculinity”.
He caused outrage in September in 2017 when he said that depression was not a real disease.
Later that year, he shockingly claimed women should bear “some responsibility” for being raped, following the allegations made against disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.
Tate has several other business ventures, including Hustler University and a string of casinos he owns with his brother Tristan.
Tate was charged with human trafficking, rape and forming an organised crime group to sexually exploit women by a Romanian court on June 20, 2023.
His brother Tristan and two Romanian female suspects were also formally charged.
In August 2023 Tate won an appeal to be released from house arrest in Romania.
As of March 2024, he, his brother Tristan, and the two female suspects are still awaiting trial.
“They’ve got to figure out sex and relationships in the post MeToo era, and that’s a minefield. And they’ve got toxic alpha influences promising them empowerment, making them feel good about themselves.”
In his new two-part documentary Danny will be asking different men across the nation what they think it means to be a man in our society today and what the future holds for the male identity.
The Football Factory hardman will be meeting individuals who believe traditional masculinity is under attack, as well as those endorsing a more progressive and inclusive version of the male identity and manhood.
Danny Dyer: How To Be A Man airs tonight at 10pm on Channel 4
