Dave Myers’ widow Liliana Orzac revealed that it took the Hairy Bikers star two years to ‘convince’ her to date him as she spoke movingly about their relationship during an appearance on Lorraine on Monday.
Her husband of 13 years passed away in February at the age of 66 after battling cancer.
After telling Lorraine about Dave Day, a day in Dave’s honour taking place in his hometown in June, Lorraine asked Liliana when she realised that Dave was The One.
Liliana, speaking at her first television interview since Dave’s death, replied: ‘I didn’t at the beginning! It took him two years to convince me.

When Lorraine asked Liliana when she realised that Dave was The One, Liliana replied: ‘I didn’t at the beginning! It took him two years to convince me’
‘The jewels that he threw at me at the beginning were words.
‘We met when he was in the very first series of Hairy Bikers and after Romania, they travelled to Mexico, to Argentina, to Turkey to India – all beautiful places, and he used to send me these beautiful emails, about the food, about the people, about the local smells and about the culture.
‘So, the wonderful emails about these wonderful trips, it just fascinated me and that’s how it started.
‘Then we kind of thought: “Oh, let’s meet up”, and then after he finished filming, we used to meet up in different parts of Europe for weekends and that’s how it started.’
Liliana also told Lorraine of Dave: ‘Everybody who loses somebody in their lives misses them but there’s a different layer because if I turn on the TV, he might be on. There are cookbooks in the house everywhere.
‘He is everywhere. It just transpires and rolls on into this beautiful thing.’
Following his death, Liliana – who has children Izabelle and Sergiu from a previous relationship – was inundated with messages from fans.
Liliana told Lorraine: ‘I had so many messages from all over the world asking how they could pay respects. People loved him and the energy he had always.
Liliana continued: ‘The jewels that he threw at me at the beginning were words.’ And shared that she fell in love with him over the ‘beautiful’ emails he would send her from his travels
Liliana shared: ‘[Fans] were asking how they could do something and this idea came to do a motorbike ride in his memory to celebrate his life’
Now, thousands of bikers are expected to travel from London to Barrow-in-Furness on Saturday for Dave Day, co-hosted by Woody Woodcock and Si King
‘They were asking how they could do something and this idea came to do a motorbike ride in his memory to celebrate his life.
‘Right after he passed, there was this comment on socials that I picked up on, this person was saying: “Dave, brave Dave. ‘Dave’ should be the synonymous to joy, and zest for life.”
‘He was always optimistic, even when he was sick. So, when we’re having a good day we should say “I’m having a Dave day.”‘
Now, thousands of bikers are expected to travel to Dave’s hometown of Barrow-in-Furness from London on Saturday for Dave Day, all in aid of Cancer Research.
The mass ride from London to Barrow will be headed up by Dave’s friend Jason ‘Woody’ Woodcock and the second half of the Hairy Bikers, Si King.
Hairy Bikers were two English celebrity chefs, Dave and Si King, who combined cooking with motorcycling travelogue.
Over their 20 years together, the Hairy Bikers hosted over 30 television series and specials for BBC One, BBC Two, Channel 5, and Good Food, and wrote a number of tie-in cookbooks.
Dave Day will take place on June 8 in Barrow-in-Furness. Details are available on the Visit Barrow website.
