Milind Lakkad expressed confidence in TCS’s hiring strategy, affirming that the company is on schedule with its planned trainee onboarding.
New Delhi: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), one of the leading IT services in India, is planning to hire 40,000 freshers by March 2025. The update was given by TCS’s Chief HR Officer, Milind Lakkad. This step is seen as a major move by the company at a time when the IT industry is grappling with talent shortages and increasing demand for digital services.
Q2 FY25 Hiring of TCS
Tata Consultancy Services continued its hiring momentum by adding 5,726 employees in the second quarter of the fiscal year 2025. This positive trend follows a similar trajectory from the previous quarter, signaling a reversal of the declining headcount trend seen earlier.
TCS had already turned the tide in Q1 of 2025 by adding 5,452 employees after three consecutive quarters of decline.
The company has always been committed to fresh talents and it goes beyond immediate requirements. TCS has begun campus hiring for FY26, showcasing its long-term vision.
Milind Lakkad expressed confidence in TCS’s hiring strategy, affirming that the company is on schedule with its planned trainee onboarding. With a robust talent base and a heightened focus on learning, TCS is well-prepared to handle the complex technology transformations their clients rely on them for.
Financial Performance
It is important to note that the company has seen its first annual employee reduction in 19 years during FY24, hence the recent hiring surge is particularly significant. In that same period, the
company slashed its headcount by 13,249 employees compared to the previous year.
However, the tide seems to have turned, and TCS is now actively replenishing its workforce. While the hiring news is positive, TCS also grapples with attrition.
In Q2 FY25, attrition grew slightly to 12.3 percent, though it stayed below last year’s level of 14.9 percent for the same quarter. TCS demonstrated strong financial performance, with net profit increasing by 5 percent to Rs 11,909 crore for the second quarter. Year-over-year revenue growth reached 7.6 percent, totaling Rs 64,259 crore.
