Addressing “the sigmas of Australia”, the 29-year-old senator spoke out to oppose the government’s proposed plan to introduce an age ban for social media, saying the voices of young people are being overlooked.
She said the government had “yapped non-stop” about the cost-of-living crisis and to “just put the fries in the bag” — essentially telling them to do their job.
“Chat, is this prime minister serious? I would be taking an L if I did not mention the opps who want to cut WA’s Gyatts and Services Tax.”
Payman posted the speech on her own TikTok account, garnering more than two million views and mixed reactions.
Some users couldn’t tell if the video was fake, asking: “Is this AI, I genuinely can’t tell?”
Others were excited that they “could finally understand someone from parliament”.
