New Delhi: Nipah Virus cases have been rising and two deaths because of this deadly virus have also been confirmed by the Kerala government. Keeping in mind the safety of the people, the government has declared certain areas as containment zones and for this reason, certain schools have also been shut. Thee may be another case of Nipah Virus in a student in Thiruvananthapuram as he has been showing a few symptoms and doctors have kept him under observation; the student is from the Thiruvananthapuram Dental College. Dental College Student Kept Under Observation For Nipah Virus

As mentioned earlier, a student of the Thiruvananthapuram Dental College has been kept under observation by doctors at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital. The student has been suffering from high fever which is one of the most prominent symptoms of the deadly virus. It is suspected that the student had eaten a fruit which was bitten by a bat; the body fluids have been sent to Pune for a detailed examination.

Schools Closed In Kerala

Till now, Kerala has recorded two deaths because of the deadly Nipah Virus and this is the reason, more than seven villages in the Kozhikode District of Kerala have been declared as ‘Containment Zones’. Apart from the two deaths, an adult and a child are affected and hospitalised and more than 130 people have been tested for the virus so far. Schools, banks and other institutions have been closed because of the virus.

Nipah Virus: Symptoms

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), Nipah Virus is caused by fruit bats and is potentially fatal to humans as well as animals. Along with respiratory illness, it is also known to cause fever, muscular pain, headache, fever, dizziness, and nausea. Earlier in Kerala there was a Nipah virus outbreak in the Kozhikode and Malappuram districts in 2018 and later in 2021, a case of Nipah virus was reported in Kozhikode.

  4. Kuttiyadi Gramapanchayat – 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 wards
  5. Kayakkodi Gramapanchayat – 5,6,7,8,9,10 wards
  6. Villiapalli Gramapanchayat – 6 and 7 wards
  7. Kavilumpara Gramapanchayat – 2,10,11,12,13,14,15 and 16
