New Delhi: A meeting of 27 renowned health professional bodies was organized by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (DGHS) to discuss the implementation of initiatives for health promotion.
The primary goal of the meeting was to discuss the promotion of healthy eating and physical activity, as well as to reduce risk factors for non-communicable diseases such as tobacco and alcohol. The participants also discussed the development of a Healthy Medical/Dental College Campus initiative to promote a culture of health and well-being in all medical and dental institutions across the country.
Dr Atul Goel, Director-General of Health Services (DGHS), emphasised the need to invest more in healthcare resources for prevention purposes rather than solely on diagnostic and therapeutic treatments. The participants also discussed ways to promote health and prevent diseases, as well as eliminating the use of tobacco and alcohol and strengthening the implementation of the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act 2019.
To promote health, the participants unanimously agreed to adopt a Declaration of Health Promotion and take other measures to espouse the concept of health promotion. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW) is committed to working together with the various professional bodies to implement the health promotion initiatives and make a difference in the health of the people of India.
