Unions are making headlines at Disneyland more than the Haunted Mansion or Splash Mountain with one labor group agreeing to a contract after threatening to strike and another forming to represent Mickey Mouse and other employees who work with Disney characters.
Disneyland resort employees are represented by 26 unions with another union about to join the ranks.
Two councils represent multiple unions at the Disneyland resort. Disneyland employees represented by Master Services Council agreed to a tentative contract on Wednesday, July 24 after bargaining for four months with Disney negotiators.
Magic United, which would become the park’s 27th union, represents Disneyland’s 1,700 character and parade performers who voted in May to be unionized under the Actors’ Equity Association.
Magic United, which is negotiating with Disney over its first contract, would boost overall union representation at the Disneyland resort from 80% to approximately 85% of Disneyland, Disney California Adventure and Disney hotel cast members, Disney parlance for employees.
“We have a solid track record of working with the other unions that represent the majority of our hourly cast at Disneyland Resort and will work with Actors’ Equity Association as we remain committed to fostering a positive work experience for all,” according to Disneyland Resort officials.
Here are the 27 unions at the Disneyland resort and the cast members they represent.
