Dog treats distributed to 19 states recalled for potential salmonella

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A chicken-based dog treat sold online and in stores across 19 states has been recalled over the potential risk of salmonella.

The product, Hollywood Feed Carolina Made Chicken Chips, was manufactured by Carolina Prime Pet, Inc. in Lenoir, North Carolina, according to the Food and Drug Administration.

The decision to recall the treats comes after third party laboratory tests noted the “potential for contamination.” The lab also found contamination in a lot of the same product that hadn’t yet been released.

The recalled treats come in a 16-ounce bag with a lot number of “20051324L2” and expiration date of Nov. 13, 2025.

According to the FDA, the bags were distributed to Hollywood Feed locations in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas. The product was also available for purchase online.

As of Tuesday, no illnesses tied to the potential contamination had been reported.

Salmonella in people is often detected after symptoms that include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Pets who contract salmonella can experience abdominal cramping, bloody diarrhea, diarrhea, fever nausea and vomiting as symptoms of salmonella, the FDA says. If your pet is experiencing any symptoms, consider contacting your pet’s veterinarian.

Pet owners that have the item are encouraged to discontinue the use of it. You can send an email here or call 1-828-394-6460 to inquire about a refund.
