For spring, Dominnico’s Domingo Rodríguez Lázaro created an atmosphere of contrasts with over-the-top monochrome looks inspired by Japanese underground cultures; thus we find pieces that convey teenage rebelliousness through almost perfectionist craft. Garments were reused and transformed into new ones after an exhaustive development process. “We spent days finding the right shades or the right combination of materials,” he said of pieces like jeans in gradient pink completed with recycled leather appliqués and reclaimed hardware. “You have to understand how the garment works, then assemble it and take care of every single detail.”
Corsets and tops embellished with leather straps, bows, and eyelets; extra-short vinyl skirts worked with hammers in leather ateliers; and upcycled jeans reinforced with leather and lined with deadstock fabric were among the pieces made from recycled materials. The subtlest items in the collection were the dresses in baby pink or black, which took their cues from uniforms. “I wanted to find the right spot because there is a fine line between empowerment and sexualization,” said the designer. As for accessories, there were beautiful lace gloves, leg warmers, and colorful wigs.
