East Bay country club lands buyer in $10 million-plus real estate deal

DANVILLE — Crow Canyon Country Club in the East Bay has been bought by a San Francisco fitness and activity company in a deal that tops $10 million, public records show.

San Francisco-based Bay Club bought the Danville-based complex, which offers an array of activities for its members.

“At the base of beautiful Mount Diablo lies a Danville oasis like no other, offering resort-style living and world-class golf, tennis, pickleball and more to active families and busy professionals for over 40 years,” Crow Canyon Country Club states on its site.

Bay Club paid $10.2 million for the country club, according to documents filed on Sept. 5 with the Contra Costa County Recorder’s Office. Bay Club bought the site in an all-cash deal, the real estate records show.

The just-bought facilities at the country club in Danville include the main building and an adjacent golf course.

Bay Club plans more additions to its Bay Area portfolio over the next 12 to 18 months, according to Bay Club Chief Executive Officer Matthew Stevens.

“Crow Canyon provides a natural extension of our presence along the East Bay 680 corridor,” said Stevens.

Stevens added that the Danville complex is equidistant to its existing clubs that total 180,000 square feet in Walnut Creek and Pleasanton, “further strengthening our active lifestyle portfolio throughout the Bay Area.”

The new owner of the Danville complex appears ready to take on a significant upgrade at the country club.

“Bay Club plans to continue its investment in the East Bay by embarking on a multi-million-dollar facility expansion of Crow Canyon,” Bay Club stated in a prepared release.

The details of the anticipated upgrade weren’t immediately available.

“We remain on course to reinvest $150 million-plus into our existing portfolio, which started in late 2022,” said Jennifer Steichen, Bay Club’s chief operating officer. “Acquisitions like Crow Canyon are simply incremental to our reinvestment commitment to our core members and clubs.”

Bay Club’s Danville, Walnut Creek and Pleasanton locations create a kind of “campus model” that collectively offer diverse amenities and activities.

“This design allows members to access a diverse array of amenities and offerings spanning across four strategic quadrants: fitness, sports, family, and hospitality,” Bay Club stated.
