Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena wants Bigg Boss OTT 3 to be taken off air, calls content ‘lewd, offensive’

Mumbai: The Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena wants a ban on reality show Bigg Boss OTT 3 and strict action against its producers and actors for “lewd and offensive” content in one of its episodes.

Manisha Kayande, the chief of the party’s women’s wing, Monday met Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar to demand that the airing of the show be stopped.

Kayande, who is also a spokesperson of the Shinde-led Shiv Sena, specifically took offence to the episode aired on 18 July that showed contestant Armaan Malik and his wife Kritika Malik seemingly sharing an intimate moment under the covers. Kayande described the behaviour as “trampling social values and crossing the boundaries of family relationships.”

“Even children watch this show and the messages conveyed by figures like Armaan Malik impact the minds of viewers,” she said in a statement.

Bigg Boss OTT 3 is being aired on JioCinema Premium.

Kayande asked Phansalkar to determine whether the episode has gone viral and take action against those involved under relevant sections.

The statement said, Kayande also plans to meet Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw to demand that content on OTT be brought under some kind of a censorship.

The undivided Shiv Sena, founded by Bal Thackeray in 1966, was often called out for alleged moral policing. The party was especially known for its ire against couples celebrating Valentine’s Day on Mumbai’s streets until Thackeray scion Aaditya Thackeray grew to be one of the party’s prominent leaders.
