Carvey, who has impersonated U.S. President Joe Biden this season, appeared in the program’s cold-opening to mock Musk, who has thrown his support behind President-elect Donald Trump.
As the SNL cast sarcastically showered praise on Trump — joking that they were hoping to remain on his good side — Carvey popped up wearing a dark MAGA hat and Musk’s all-black wardrobe.
“Check it out: dark MAGA. Yeah! But seriously, I run the country now,” Carvey said in a faux South African accent. “America’s going to be like one of my rockets. They’re super cool and super fun, but there’s a slight chance it could blow up and everybody dies. Haha!”

Carvey threw his hands in the air and ended his appearance by exclaiming, “See you in the White House!”
Responding to a follower who shared a clip of the segment and asked, “Is this funny to anyone?” Musk said, “SNL has been dying slowly for years, as they become increasingly out of touch with reality.”

He then hit out at Vice President Kamala Harris’ cameo on the show just days before the election. “Their last-ditch effort to cheat the equal airtime requirements and prop up Kamala before the election only helped sink her campaign further,” Musk added.
According to USA Today, after Harris’ SNL appearance, NBC filed a notice with the Federal Communications Commission saying it would give Donald Trump equal time, letting him address viewers during a NASCAR Cup playoff race that aired on the network the next day.
In another social media post, Musk slammed Carvey’s impersonation, writing, “Dana Carvey just sounds like Dana Carvey.” He also made fun of the opening saying the cast members “are so mad that” Trump won the election. When another user claimed more people watched the SNL sketch on X than on TV, Musk agreed with a laughing emoji.

Musk, who hosted the late-night show three years ago, has previously dismissed SNL as “woke” and deemed it “so rarely funny these (days).”
After he was tapped to front an episode in 2021, cast member Bowen Yang reacted to the news by posting a frowning face on his Instagram.
Andrew Dismukes also reacted negatively by sharing a photo of SNL alum Cheri Oteri and writing, “ONLY CEO I WANT TO DO A SKETCH WITH IS CHER-E OTERI”
After Trump hosted back in 2015, former SNLer Taran Killam later called it “embarrassing and shameful.”
Musk isn’t the only one to react negatively to how he was portrayed on the show recently.
Earlier this season, Oasis’ Liam Gallagher lambasted the program for poking fun at his feud with his brother Noel during a Weekend Update segment that featured James Austin Johnson and Sarah Sherman impersonating the pair.
“Are they meant to be comedians,” Liam asked on X.
