England has enhanced its white-ball squad for the West Indies tour by adding Jordan Cox and Rehan Ahmed, with Cox set to debut in ODIs as a backup keeper and Livingstone appointed captain for the series.
New Delhi: England has strengthened their white-ball squad for the upcoming tour of the West Indies by including Jordan Cox and Rehan Ahmed. The team is gearing up for a packed schedule, starting with the first ODI in Antigua next Thursday.
Cox, the wicketkeeper-batter from Essex, and leg-spinner Ahmed are currently part of England’s Test squad in Pakistan. Cox will return to the UK after the first Test in Rawalpindi to join the white-ball squad ahead of their departure for the Caribbean on Monday. Meanwhile, Rehan, who has been included in England’s playing XI for the third Test in Pakistan, will join the white-ball squad later and is anticipated to miss the first ODI.
Jordan Cox, who made his international debut in England’s recent T20I series against Australia, is poised to earn his first ODI cap during the upcoming tour. With Jos Buttler sidelined for the ODIs due to a calf injury, Cox will also act as a backup wicketkeeper. However, he is anticipated to depart the Caribbean early to rejoin the Test squad in New Zealand ahead of their series, which begins in late November.
Rehan Ahmed, while unlikely to play in the ODIs, is expected to be considered for the five-match T20I series, depending on when he arrives. England’s spin options for the limited-overs leg include experienced wrist-spinner Adil Rashid and uncapped Yorkshire leg-spinner Jafer Chohan.
Liam Livingstone has been appointed as captain for England’s ODI series against the West Indies, with Michael Pepper brought in as additional cover. The West Indies, currently down 2-0 in their ODI series against Sri Lanka, have not yet announced their squad for the upcoming series against England. The tour will wrap up with the fifth and final T20I in St. Lucia on November 17.
England ODI and T20I squads: Jos Buttler (captain, T20Is only), Rehan Ahmed, Jofra Archer, Jacob Bethell, Jafer Chohan, Jordan Cox, Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Liam Livingstone (ODI captain), Saqib Mahmood, Dan Mousley, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Reece Topley, John Turner.
