Saracens have announced that experienced England international hooker Jamie George has signed a new two-year contract at the North London outfit.
George, who has been at Saracens for more than a decade, is a stalwart in the English game, and he will continue his stay at the Premiership champions until at least 2026.
After joining Saracens‘ academy as a 14-year-old, George, who was named as England‘s captain for the upcoming Six Nations on Wednesday, has played all of his senior rugby for the StoneX Stadium-based club.
First hybrid contract
George’s new deal is the first hybrid contract signed by an England international and he agreed terms on an enhanced EPS deal which was offered to him by the Rugby Football Union.
This new RFU contract structure is designed to keep some of England’s leading players in the Premiership.
After making his professional debut for Saracens’ senior side against Northampton Saints in the Anglo-Welsh Cup in 2009, George made his Test bow for England in a 2015 Rugby World Cup warm-up encounter against France.
The 33-year-old has made 282 appearances for Sarries and won six Premiership titles and three European Cups with the club during that period.
George has also won 85 caps for England and made three Test appearances for the British & Irish Lions on tours to New Zealand and South Africa in 2017 and 2021.
He expressed his delight that he will continue his stay at Saracens.
“I’m ecstatic to be staying here for another couple of years, it’s so pleasing for me,” George told Sarries’ official website. “In my mind I always wanted to stay, I’ve grown up here, have been here for a long time and am excited by what is next.
“This whole organisation is based around people, and I’m excited by the people that we have here for the future. It’s an exciting time to be here, I can’t stress enough that my motivation is as high as ever.
“I’ve had some amazing times here and have enjoyed every part of it. My best mates are here and we all can’t wait see what the future brings.”
Mark McCall happy with George’s decision
Saracens’ director of rugby Mark McCall is happy that George has recommitted to the club.
“Jamie lives and breathes Saracens and is a true leader in every sense of the word,” he said. “He is an incredibly popular member of the group and he continues to show how important he is to this club with his performances week in week out.
Jamie sets the standards for us and we couldn’t be happier that he is staying.”
