Ernest W. Baker Spring 2025 Ready-to-Wear Collection Review: Homage and Celebration

As is tradition at Ernest W. Baker, Reid Baker and Inês Amorim layered design elements from former seasons into their garments for spring 2025. But this collection for men and women also served as an homage to Baker’s grandfather, after whom the brand was named, since he recently passed away at age 95.

It served as an homage to the brand’s early collections, as well, according to Baker.

“We were playing with this concept of taking from his wardrobe and then reinterpreting [the fashion],” continued the designer. “So it’s just simple, classic elements that filled his wardrobe, like pinstripes, these grandpa checks, classic checks.”

Such foundational elements were elevated with the likes of leather or jacquard pinstripes.

“We explored more of these craft elements that take a substantial amount of time to make,” said Baker, holding up a crochet knitwear jacket decorated with golden beads. “It was this sort of a healing process.”

Concurrently, the brand continued to shine a light on artisans in Portugal. A suit vest came spangled with small light-blue, stone charms.

“It’s reminiscent of teardrops,” said Baker, adding the collection celebrated his grandfather, “because he lived a great life. We have these very fun elements, as well.”

There was a jacket made of a ribbon jacquard, giving volume, which could blend into a total look, including matching shoes and a belt bag, for instance.

“The first collections were literally inspired from him, and the brand has evolved into this Ernest character,” said Baker.
